Cymraeg is part of the Literacy, Language and Communication Area of Learning Experience in the Curriculum for Wales.

At Ysgol Gynradd Holton, we encourage all pupils to use their Welsh daily and follow the CSC Continuum for Welsh sentence patterns.

Eisteddfod 2025!

For the first time we celebrated our Eisteddfod in our Pencoedtre Cluster to compete and perform together across the week. In Progression Step 3 (Years 4, 5 and 6) each class learnt a song (Pêl-droed) and a poem (Eisteddfod yr anifeiliaid) to participate in the recitation competitions. Year Four headed to Cadoxton Primary School, Year Five was hosted at Holton Primary School and Year 6 visited Gladstone Primary School. Judges were at each school to listen to the wonderful singing and recitations. Progression Step 2 (Years 1, 2 and 3) also learnt a song (Aderyn Melyn), poem (Y Parti) and a folk dance which they performed in their own schools. The finale to the week was the Holton Bardic Ceremony which sees the best poet in Year 6 crowned as the Bardd Holton. This year the winner wrote an incredibly beautiful and moving poem about Cynefin, a sense of belonging. The wonderful Welsh week was filled with song, poetry, dance and pride!
